Indian Motorcycle ofthe Year 2018
KTMDuke 390 has won the prestigious and coveted award for motorcycles in India, the ‘Indian Motorcycle of the Year’ (IMOTY). The high performance Austrian bike competed with 19 other new bikes to win the award.
Apart from the KTM Duke 390, other 19 motorcycles competed for the award wereHero Glamour 125, Suzuki Intruder 150, Bajaj Pulsar NS160, Yamaha FZ25, Benelli 302R, Bajaj Dominar 400, Triumph Bonneville Bobber, Harley Davidson Street Rod, Triumph Street Triple RS, Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin and MV Agusta Brutale 800. Final round of the selection were held on 4th December. In the final round the jury panel selected three out of 20 total competing bike.
The three finalist bikes were KTM Duke 390, Yamaha FZ25 and Triumph Street Triple RS. While all of them were capable ones to win the award, KTM Duke 390 was voted unanimously. The Austrian high performance bike got 107 points, while the Yamaha FZ25 scored 77 points and the Triumph Street Triple RS bagged 68 points.
The bikes were judged on various parameters like pricing, styling, riding comfort, safety, performance, technical innovation, practicality, value for money, fuel efficiency and of course their suitability on the Indian roads. No wonder, the jury panel found KTM Duke 390 well fitting in all these categories. In earlier editions of the Indian Motorcycle of the year, Yamaha YZZ-R3 was the winner in 2016 and TVS apache RTR 200 4V won the award last year.
KTM has achieved pretty impressive success in the Indian market within short span after its launch. Thanks to the local production the bike manufacturer has been able to sell high performance global quality models at aggressive pricing. KTM’s partnership with Bajaj Auto has also helped the brand to grow here. So far, KTM has become one of the affordable premium bike brands in the domestic market.
