Superstar Rajinikanth-starrer ‘2.0’ is easily among the most awaited Indian films of all time. After being postponed twice, the film is currently in its post-production stage. According to latest reports, it looks like ‘2.0’ is highly unlikely to release this year. Reports suggest that the VFX work is taking a longer time than expected and that it is very difficult for the makers to release the film by the year-end. An official confirmation regarding the same is expected to be announced shortly.
Early this year, ‘2.0’ was mired in controversy after raw footage from the film was leaked on the internet. Made on a massive budget of Rs 450 crore, the film is touted to be the costliest Asian film to date. Directed by Shankar, the film is a sequel to the blockbuster Tamil film ‘Enthiran’, which released in 2010. ‘2.0’ will see Rajinikanth returning as the andro-humanoid robot Chitti.
In October 2017, the makers hosted a grand audio launch in Dubai. In fact, the film was initially planned for a release on Diwali last year. Also starring Akshay Kumar, Amy Jackson, Sudhanshu Pandey and Adil Hussain in pivotal roles, the film has music by AR Rahman.
A source while talking about this development told Bollywood Hungama, ” With the amount of VFX work on 2.0 that is still pending, there is no way the makers will be able to release the film this year. In fact, the producers are currently working out a perfect release date for the film that will now hit screens in 2019. An announcement of the same will be done in the last quarter of the year. ” The source also further added saying “By this year-end, the makers of 2.0 are looking at completing a majority of the VFX work but this constant delayed has created yet another problem and this time it is the budget that has gone haywire”
Directed by Shankar, 2.0 stars Rajinikanth and Akshay Kumar in key roles. Akshay is reportedly playing an antagonist in the film. Apart from these two biggies, the film also stars Amy Jackson. If reports are to be believed, 2.0 demonstrates incredible artificial intelligence.
