Suzuki Gixxer 250 (GSX 250R) Could Be Launched In India. The 250 cc fully-faired Gixxer could be showcased in India at the upcoming 2018 Delhi Auto Expo. Its European premiere happened at the 2016 EICMA show before going on sale this year
Suzuki GSX250R had been making headlines for quite some time now. The quarter-litre fully-faired sports bike was showcased for Europe at the 2016 EICMA and it grabbed attention of everyone. With the bike’s pricing announced in the UK and some other markets, it is expected to come to India sometime in the near future.
In the UK market, the Suzuki Gixxer 250R is available at Rs. 3.5 lakh and in our country too, it could be priced aggressively to compete with rivals like Mahindra Mojo, KTM RC 200, Benelli TNT 25 and Honda CBR 250R. The Suzuki GSX250R borrows its engine from Suzuki Inazuma that was priced at Rs. 3.1 lakh in India and couldn’t fetch impressive sales result due to the higher pricing.
The company managed to sell only 232 units in the country and it is expected that the brand won’t make the similar mistake again with the GSX250R. It is not sure how Suzuki is going to keep the pricing of the GSX250R, but if the Japanese company opts for local production of the model instead of importing it through CKD channel, then surely it will be priced very aggressive leading towards success in the highly price sensitive Indian market.
The fully-faired Suzuki Gixxer 250 cc was spied for the first time in a factory back in Japan in December 2015 and after almost a year, the production bike was launched there last month. It marked its European debut at EICMA 2016 last November with huge anticipation. The Suzuki Gixxer 250 has it all on the face of it – aggressive and muscular styling with sporty bits that can be clearly seen here.
Price in India:
We expect the price to start from Rs. 2.5 lakh if it’s a single cylinder liquid-cooled motor. ABS if offered as optional, could see it reach to nearly Rs. 3 lakh which is still a good value for money. However, if it’s sold with the existing engine, a price range of around Rs. 3.5 lakh cannot be neglected (ex-showroom).
Engine and Gearbox, Chassis, Suspension and Brakes, Mileage, Dimensions and Design, Colours:
The parallel-twin liquid-cooled 248 cc petrol engine produces a maximum power output of 24.7 hp at 8,000 rpm 23.3 Nm delivered at 6,500 rpm. It comes mated to a six-speed transmission. The motor has 53.5 x 55.2 bore and stroke along with compression of 11.5:1.
Up front, the new Suzuki quarter-litre motorcycle doesn’t have USD forks but at the rear it features monoshock suspension. The front tyre size is 110/80–17 and the rear gets 140/70-17. The fully-faired bike has a kerb weight of just 178 kg. Braking capability is taken care of by 290 mm single disc with two-piston caliper up front and a single 240 mm disc at the rear.
Suzuki Gixxer 250cc will come equipped most likely with a lightest engine in its class and will be equipped SEP (Suzuki Eco Performance) and should return a healthy 25-30 kmpl if sanely ridden.
Suzuki Gixxer 250cc is larger in every dimension than the current 155cc Gixxer. The wheelbase stands at 1,430 mm while the seat height is at 790 mm.
